At Glenroy West Primary School, we warmly welcome families and students for whom English is an additional language (EAL). If your child speaks multiple languages at home, our skilled classroom teachers and EAL interventionist will assess their needs to determine if extra English literacy support through EAL sessions would be beneficial.
Our EAL intervention program, aligned with the updated Victorian Curriculum, supports students in their early years of Australian schooling by focusing on their English language development and proficiency. EAL sessions target oral language, vocabulary building, grammar, reading, and writing skills. Our dedicated EAL teacher collaborates with classroom teachers to design activities that best address each student's language needs.
EAL students receive two to three face-to-face sessions per week during school hours, delivered by our trained EAL teaching staff. These sessions may be individual or in groups. By learning EAL, students gain the linguistic and cultural competence needed to fully engage with the mainstream education program and the world around them.
