At Glenroy West Primary School, we view mathematics as more than just equations and facts to memorise. We believe it's a way of thinking, a powerful tool that helps our students describe and analyse the world around them. We encourage students to see themselves as 'mathematicians,' just as literacy allows them to become authors, readers, and publishers.
Our focus is on mastering essential skills, developing a solid understanding of key mathematical concepts, and applying them practically in everyday life at school and home. We strive to integrate a transdisciplinary approach to the curriculum, underpinned by the International Baccalaureate's Primary Years Programme within the framework of The Victorian Curriculum.
Our staff and students use inquiry as a means to apply their mathematical knowledge fluently and logically, building on their previous experiences and understanding. Students learn to transfer their knowledge through symbolic notation and are encouraged to explore increasingly abstract levels of meaning in relevant, realistic contexts.
